Saltiel Life Sciences Symposium
Honoring our most important values — excellence in science, investment in high-impact research, and the spark that happens when researchers with diverse perspectives come together.
About the Annual Symposium
Each year, the LSI brings together top scientists from a range of disciplines to share work around a common theme.
The event represents the LSI’s most important values: excellence in science, investment in high-impact research, and the spark that happens when researchers with varied expertise exchange ideas, methods, and insights.
The symposium has been ingrained in the institute's DNA from the very beginning — with the first event in 2002 happening while construction on the LSI building was still underway.
In 2016 the event was named the Saltiel Life Sciences Symposium to honor the contributions of former director Alan Saltiel.
2020 Symposium
The 2020 Saltiel Life Sciences Symposium, "Broadening the Biosciences," explored diverse approaches to biological and biomedical research, and examined the need to broaden the research lens to include more diverse populations in human studies and how new experimental approaches and non-traditional model organisms can aid in solving some of our biggest scientific challenges.
On September 29 and 30, 2020, the LSI Symposium showcased innovative and creative research taking place globally and here at U-M to expand our understanding of the biosciences.
