Each year, the LSI brings together top scientists from a range of disciplines to share work around a common theme.

The event represents the LSI’s most important values: excellence in science, investment in high-impact research, and the spark that happens when researchers with varied expertise exchange ideas, methods, and insights.

The symposium has been ingrained in the institute's DNA from the very beginning — with the first event in 2002 happening while construction on the LSI building was still underway.

In 2016 the event was named the Saltiel Life Sciences Symposium to honor the contributions of former director Alan Saltiel.

In honor of the institute's 20th anniversary, in May 2024 the LSI will host a special two-day Saltiel Life Sciences Symposium highlighting the impactful science and scientists that have emerged from the LSI’s first 20 years.
