LSI Service Awards

The LSI attracts world-class faculty, trainees, and staff, who conduct and support groundbreaking research, train the next generation of scientific leaders, and make a global impact.

In alignment with our community values, the LSI annually recognizes exceptional individuals in three categories that exemplify the qualities driving our success: stellar mentorship, impactful outreach activities in service to others and outstanding administrative service to advance the LSI’s mission.

LSI Outreach Awards

Outreach is a cornerstone activity at the LSI, supporting the connections between research, teaching and service to the public. As members of a public university, and recipients of publicly funded research, we view outreach to the public as inseparable from our scientific mission and from our core values.

The LSI Outreach Awards were established in 2018 to recognize community members who inspire and support future generations to pursue scientific exploration through a variety of outreach initiatives.

Marilyn Kroin Beck Mentorship Award

The Marilyn Kroin Beck Mentorship Award was established in 2025 to honor exceptional mentors within the LSI, in celebration of the life and impact of Marilyn Kroin Beck, the mother of longstanding Leadership Council member David Kroin.

The award recognizes an individual who over the past year has exemplified in an extraordinary fashion the qualities of a great mentor. This person selflessly devotes time to nurturing the professional development of others, invests thoughtfulness into honest feedback, listens with purpose, provides valuable insights and support, leverages relationships for the benefit of mentees, leads by example and demonstrates genuine care in the whole individual.

This award is made possible through generous philanthropic support.
