LSI Trainees Career Talk Series: Jim Trenkle, Ph.D.

The LSI Trainees Career Talk Series is a professional development and networking event series hosted by the LSI Trainees. These events feature conversations with a U-M graduate working in a science-related field, including representatives from non-academic career paths such as pharma scientists, biotech entrepreneurs, intellectual property lawyers working with biomedical invention, investors in health sciences and science communicators. This series is open to all students and postdocs at the LSI and others by invitation. 
 
This month's speaker is Jim Trenkle, an investor-scientist with experience in medicinal chemistry, drug development, early-stage biotech and commercialization.

Jim Trenkle earned his B.S. in Honors Chemistry in 2002 from the University of Michigan. He also holds holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of California Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He began his career with Gilead Sciences, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in medicinal chemistry, project and portfolio management, and commercial strategy, largely focused on hepatitis C and other liver diseases. He joined Sanofi Ventures as head of Investments in 2020; prior to joining Sanofi, Jim was part of the early team at Pivotal bioVenture Partners in San Francisco.
