LSI Explorer Program

LSI trainees participate in cultural and athletic events on campus

The LSI Explorer Program provides opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to engage in a the diverse array of campus offerings across the University of Michigan, from music and art to history and sports.

To encourage our community members to enjoy free time away from the bench and connect with peers from other LSI labs, the program provides funding for LSI trainees to attend university concerts, theater performances, athletic games, behind-the-scenes tours of campus and community-building social outings. Through the Explorer Program, trainees are immersed in the vibrant campus community and experience what “Go Blue!” really means.

In the first year of the LSI Explorer Program, more than 50 trainees from 22 LSI labs attended events, including:

  • 13 University Musical Society concerts, catching performances of the Berlin Philharmonic, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, and the London Philharmonic
  • 3 School of Music, Theater and Dance shows, including “A Few Good Men” and “Hansel and Gretel”
  • 7 U-M Athletics matchups across football, ice hockey, and men’s and women’s basketball
