Cryo-EM Workshop 2022: "I have my data set — Now what?"

University of Michigan
Audience This is a public event.

Single-particle cryo-EM is a rapidly evolving structural technique that allows for the calculation of 3D structures of purified biological specimens. Recent technological developments in microscopes, cameras, and computation have led to a “resolution revolution” in the field and it is now possible to determine 3D structures under 3Å resolution.

The focus of this four-day class is to introduce participants to common image processing packages used to analyze cryo-EM data. This is a hands on class where participants will work with instructors to learn how to independently use common software packages (RELION, cisTEM, and cryoSPARC), in addition cryoDRGN. A key feature of the course will be the opportunity for participants to bring their own data for analysis so that they can get practical processing advice from leading experts in the field.

Participant Requirements:

  • Laptop computer
  • Bring your own cryo-EM dataset for analysis (required)
  • Watch Dr. Jensen's Caltech online cryo-EM course before arriving
  • Experience collecting cryo-EM data would be helpful

Who Should Attend

Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, staff and non-academics (such as industry) researchers who have cryo-EM experience and at least one cryo-EM dataset for processing are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to participants who are learning cryo-EM and are actively analyzing datasets.

The application deadline for the 2022 workshop was April 4 at 5pm ET. Both the application form and the reference letters are due by that time. Enter your full name as the proposal title. Additional materials required are:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • One-page justification regarding why your participation in this workshop will help you with your cryo-EM project (we place particular emphasis on applicants who are already analyzing cryo-EM datasets)
  • Reference letter from PI and/or head of Lab

View the full application page for more information.
