Black History Month Learning Discussion

February is Black History Month in the United States. We invite you to partake in self-learning about a person or topic relevant to Black History Month and join your fellow LSI community members in a group discussion where each participant will have the opportunity to briefly share their learning with fellow participants.

There are so many areas to explore, but here are a few ideas to get started:

• Visit blackhistorymonth.org, which features events and resources to mark Black History Month. This website is a partnership with the Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. 
• View the Detroit Public Library's curated list of books by Black authors 

STEM topics:

• Learn more about any of the Cell 1,000 inspiring Black scientists in America 
• Explore Black and STEM-related content on social media (e.g., #BlackInTheIvory, #BlackandSTEM, #BlackinSTEM, or discipline-specific hashtags such as #BlackInChem, #BlackInMicro, #BlackinNeuro, and #BlackinPhysiology)
