Making a Gift

There are many opportunities to support the research being done in the Life Sciences Institute. Your gift will make a difference in the scientific endeavors of our students, faculty members, and laboratories. LSI faculty are doing important work on some of humanity’s most devastating diseases, including cancer, diabetes, Parkinson’s, and cardiovascular disease. Your gift designation can be made to directly support work in any area. Below are some current funding initiatives of the LSI. Feel free to contact our Development Officer Halima Cherif to discuss the allocation of your gift.

Center for Stem Cell Biology

Stem cell science is one of the most important areas in biomedical research today. It has already yielded key insights into the elusive biology of human development and has great potential for increasing our understanding of devastating human diseases like diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Gifts can be made to support the work of the Center, its faculty, students or any other designation. The Center has also announced a new project on human embryonic stem cells for 2006-2010. Gifts to this fund will go specifically to support research that is not currently eligible for federal funding.

Weizmann Institute/Israel Research Partnerships

The way that we do science is changing; collaboration across not only disciplines, but also institutions is becoming necessary to do truly groundbreaking discovery. The LSI has established a scientific partnership with the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovet, Israel and hopes to extend this partnership with other Israeli scientific institutions. Through collaboration, the opportunity to achieve scientific milestones will be accelerated.

Your gift to the Weizmann Institute will support scientific exchange programs for faculty and students from both UM and the Weizmann, research support for collaborative teams, and the bi-annual symposium.

Director’s Fund

Gifts made to the Director’s fund go to support all the initiatives of the LSI, focusing on the scientific priorities of the Director in coordination with the faculty.
