Diabetes: Developing a new drug to treat Type 2 diabetes

Tens of millions of Americans must face living with Type 2 diabetes, while millions more are yet to be diagnosed. The Saltiel lab is close to finding an inhibitor of the IKKE gene, which they discovered when deleted in mouse models, blocks the inflammation that leads to diabetes.

“...the Innovation Partnership...can take forward projects such as this, that could result in the discovery of a drug to combat obesity, diabetes, fatty liver, and other associated problems.”

—Dr. Alan Saltiel
