Oct. 24, 2005 - LSI Director Alan Saltiel was inducted into the prestigious Institute of Medicine, the only UM inductee this year and the third LSI faculty member to receive this honor after David Ginsburg in 1999 and Rowena Matthews in 2004. The Institute of Medicine is an independent scienific organization which seeks to improve health worldwide.

Jul. 22, 2005 - The Regeants of the University of Michigan have appointed Alan Saltiel to a second term as director of the Life Sciences Institute. Dr. Saltiel, the John Jacob Abel Professor of Life Sciences, has been serving as LSI director since September 2002.

Alan Saltiel's research supported by donation
Nov. 22, 2004 - The UM Health System Diabetes Research Center received a $44 million donation from Bill and Dee Brehm of Mclean, VA. This grant will allow research on diabetes, like that taking place in Dr. Alan Saltiel's lab, to be expanded, hopefully taking us several steps closer to a cure.

Popular Austrailian radio show interviews Director
Aug. 24, 2004 - Life Sciences Institute Director Alan R. Saltiel was recently interviewed on "The Health Report," a production of Radio National, an Australian affiliate of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). On this popular Australian radio show, hosted by Dr. Norman Swan, Dr. Saltiel spoke about the metabolic role of the hormones that fat cells secrete, as related to the development of Type II diabetes, his primary research interest.
