Perrigo Undergraduate Fellowship Program

The Perrigo Company and the University of Michigan Life Sciences Institute are offering summer fellowships to highly qualified undergraduate students currently enrolled at any university of college in Michigan. Most applicants are students in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, engineering, or related fields.

Each student will be assigned to a laboratory in the Life Sciences Institute for hands-on experience with world-class researchers. Student fellows will participate in side-by-side work at the research bench with faculty members and scientists of the LSI. Fellows will receive a $3000 stipend for ten weeks, plus housing support.

2009 Program Information

The Perrigo Fellowship is open to any student attending a college or university in Michigan. Applicants should have excellent academic records and preferably have some experience working in a lab. Students in any stage of their undergraduate career may apply, though typically students of Junior/Senior status are given higher priority.

If accepted as a Perrigo Fellow, you will be expected to work full time in your assigned lab. Hours may vary and will be determined by you and your host faculty member, but expect to work approximately 40 hours a week. Fellows should also be prepared to work the entire duration of the program. Special allowances may be made for students whose school semester does not end before the program begins.

This year, the program will run from June 1 to August 7, 2009. Fellows participate in a summer-end colloquium open to the campus community to present a short talk on their research project. Also, selected Fellows visit the Perrigo Company world headquarters located in Allegan, MI for a site tour and interaction with their scientists.
