LSI Initiatives
The LSI’s mission of collaboration is not limited to just within the walls of LSI or just within the fields of science. Since its opening, the LSI has been working to be an agent of change, not only scientific research, but also leading the exploration of the impact of science on business, healthcare, education, art and the international community. Below are some LSI initiatives that go beyond traditional science.
Business of Biology Course
The Business of Biology Course is a graduate level course offered through the Ross School of Business and the School of Public Health. This multidisciplinary course explores the consequences of transformative change on the future of business and industry, medicine and health, and the complex ethical and legal issues that face individuals and society.
LSI/Weizmann Scientific Partnership
The way that we do science is changing; collaboration across disciplines and institutions is becoming necessary to do truly groundbreaking discovery. Israel is a world leader in scientific excellence, home to renowned scientific institutions such as the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovet. The LSI has established a scientific partnership with the Weizmann Institute that includes scientific exchange programs for faculty and students, as well as a bi-annual symposium.
Perrigo Undergraduate Fellowship
The importance of training the next generation of scientists is paramount. The LSI, in partnership with the Perrigo Company of Allegan, Michigan, has created a summer fellowship program for highly qualified undergraduate students to do hands-on research in a collaborative environment.
Sci/Art Connection
The LSI has partnered with the School of Art and Design and the U-M Museum of Art to explore the unique intersection of art, science and technology. This partnership includes a permanent art collection in the LSI, as well as plans for an Artist in Residence Program and other event.
