About the CCG

CCG and collaborators awarded grant to study rare diseases

March 23, 2008 - The Center for Chemical Genomics is awarded a one-time pilot grant in the amount of $75,000. The project, entitled "Small Molecule Mediated Protein Folding in Rare Disease Targets," is intended as a first step in establishing a collaborative network comprising the Center for Chemical Genomics (CCG) and University investigators interested in rare diseases caused by misfolding of proteins. Led by David Sherman, PhD, Director of CCG and Stuart Decker, PhD, Head of Assay Development, CCG, collaborators on this project include Jason Gestwicki, PhD, Asst Prof, Pathology and Res Asst Prof, LSI; Andrew Lieberman, MD, PhD, Asst Prof, Pathology; Karl Desch, PhD, Clinical Lecturer, Dept of Pediatrics and Research Fellow, LSI; Henry Paulson, PhD, Prof., Neurology; and Steve Pipe, PhD, Assoc Prof, Pediatrics and Pathology.

Funds for UM's Initiative on Rare Disease are provided by the Office of the Vice President for Research; Office of the Dean, School of Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine.

Collaboratory for High Throughput Screening

The CCG provides assistance with assay development for
implementation into high throughput screening. Resources
include:

  • a small molecule compound collection,
  • liquid handling robotics, detection equipment,
  • relational database and chemistry software for
    follow-up development.
